About

Steven Kars is the owner/engineer of CanAm Underwater Hockey Gear. He founded CanAm Sticks in 1990 when he started his playing career at the age of 13 with the Soo Tridents Underwater Hockey Club of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. Since that time, Steve has made and distributed underwater hockey sticks to the masses of Canada, U.S.A and the World. In 1999, the Soo Tridents main pool, (Queen Elizabeth Pool – Huge Slope), was torn down an a new pool was erected with an non-slip tile bottom making any currently made uwh pucks unplayable. This problem lead to the development and production of the CanAm Universal Puck, making the new pool playable and the Launch of CanAm Underwater Hockey Gear successful. Since that time, we have grown in leaps and bounds, developing new stick designs, pucks and providing gear to the masses across the world. We look forward to improving your game through improved gear, technology and education.

During the last 20 years, Steve has played in many regional, national and international underwater hockey competitions for across Canada and the U.S.A. In 2001, he was a member of the University of Illinois Underwater Hockey team that won the U.S.A. National Underwater Hockey Championships in San Jose, California. He has had the great opportunity to represent two countries at the World Underwater Hockey Championships and is proud of his accomplishments:

  • 2002 Calgary, Alberta Canada ~ Canadian Men’s Team – Finished 6th
  • 2004 Christchurch, New Zealand ~ American Men’s Team – Finished 8th

Steve holds a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lake Superior State University and currently resides in Rapid River, Michigan with his wife, Rachel, and twin daughters Abigail and Kinzie. He continues to play underwater hockey in Green Bay, Wisconsin and with the Soo Tridents.
